The tagline for the ONE CAMPAIGN is ‘Poverty is Sexist’ and it is redressing this imbalance that underpins everything the campaign seeks to do as it urges world leaders to empower women and eradicate poverty.
An organisation that doesn’t build schools or dig wells, the ONE Campaign (co-founded by Bono) instead pressurises world leaders by way of petitions, statistics and strategies to change policies that affect whole communities and countries.
To this end, Bono did what he does best and organised a sing-along with some of Africa’s leading musicians including Banky W, Yemi Alade, D’Banj and many more. The stand-out star for me is Diamond Platnumz as his short piece reminds me that this man is indeed gifted. Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde just full the whole video. I’m not sure why.
Oh, to the Francophone artistes I don’t know…yo, who are you ladies??? You ROCK!
I found the full list of participating artists on YouTube and I will be searching for them all one by one. They are yum!
‘Strong Girl’ features vocalists Waje (Nigeria), D’Banj (Nigeria) Victoria Kimani (Kenya), Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Banky W (Nigeria), Arielle T (Gabon), Diamond (Tanzania) Gabriela (Mozambique), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Selmor Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Judith Sephuma (South Africa), new talent Blessing Nwafor (South Africa), and U2’s Bono
Lines from the song go: I’m the piece of the puzzle that’s missing; I complete the Earth and this is indeed true – women are the key to economic liberation and the eradication of poverty, so I beg of you to sign the petition HERE
It only takes a minute, and you will be doing your part towards a greater tomorrow. That’s if Vic O and his rhymes don’t kill us all first sha. Sigh.
